Oyen Chamber of Commerce Update: Christmas season 2024

By Charmain Snell
Secretary-Treasurer

The Chamber had a very successful Christmas season in 2024!

We hosted three pop-up markets during December with 10-15 home-based vendors able to attend each market. We appreciate everyone who came out to shop locally and support our valuable downtown businesses and home-based vendors.

On December 5, the Chamber was going to light up the Clock-Tower park but we ran into some difficulties, namely we “discovered” a sink hole when one of our volunteers fell through the ground. We are going to wait until the Town is able to repair the situation and with the help of Jason at ATCO Electric we are going to string the lights in the Spring/Summer with the intention of lighting up the Park next Christmas.

The Chamber extends appreciation to Art Berg who played Christmas music on our late-night shopping evenings; and to Tracy Hudson and “Santa” who both volunteered their time for photos with the kids.

One last kudo goes to Diana Walker and Pam Stark for baking cookies and muffins to hand out to our shoppers!

The Passport to Christmas program was not as successful this year as we would have hoped however, the Chamber was able to give out some great prizes to those who participated, all donated by our local Chamber members including Home Hardware, Hair Affair, CARA, Lijdsman Insurance, Oyen Optometry Clinic, Baker’s Dozen, TGP Fine Foods, KD’s Fine Wine and Spirits, Oyen Liquor Mart, Bud’s E&I Services, Here's Your Sign and Schindel Agencies.

The Chamber’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 7:00 pm.  The meeting will take place at the FCSS Youth Center. Everyone is welcome to attend and dinner will be provided.
