Traub-Hulbert: “Bonnie” Aurore Beatrice (Coutu), Nov. 12, 1932-Sept. 8, 2019
Mom was born in St. Laurent, Manitoba to Joseph aand Anne Coutu. She was raised in a very loving home on their family farm with her 12 siblings.
In the early 1950s, mom met and married the love of her life, George Edward Traub. Throughout the years, they lived in various communities while raising their seven children. Tragedy struck in 1985 when Dad unexpectedly died, leaving Mom to adjust to a life without him.
Jack Hulbert came into her life shortly after Dad’s death. They were both widowers, seeking companionship and support and they were able to find this in one another. Mom and Jack got married and resided in Weyburn, Sask. for 23 years before Jack’s death in 2009.
Mom continued to live in their home in Weyburn into the early months of 2015, when she made the decision to move to Acadia Valley, Alta. to live with her youngest son and his family. She loved her new home and it brought her four years of pride and joy. Acadia Valley welcomed mom to their little town and she quickly made a few new friends, her closest being her neighbor, Norma.
Mom was a very private person, who enjoyed keeping to herself. She had many hobbies over the years: cross stitching, crocheting, baking, watching a juicy episode of “Dr. Phil” or “Judge Judy” and more recently, colouring, were some of them. She loved gifting her baked goods, blankets or pictures to her family and friends. It was how she expressed her love for us. You couldn’t go to mom’s/grandma’s/G.G’s house without being sent home with cookies, muffins, bread, jam, butter tarts or whatever was on her baking list that day.
Wit was something mom didn’t lack. She was a fireball of personality and was never afraid to share her thoughts. Mind you, these thoughts were often “inappropriate” and were usually followed with mom uncontrollably giggling to herself. She had a way of catching people off guard with her sense of humor, as it was never filtered. She spoke it like it was and didn’t concern herself with what anyone thought. She enjoyed making those around her smile and used her humor to do it.
Mom will be missed very dearly by so many who knew her and loved her. She is the true matriarch of our family and her life will live on through us all. Her home will forever be filled with the scent of fresh baked bread, the sounds of Elvis Presley singing in the background and the sight of her sitting on her chair, patiently colouring a picture, with her dog, Maggie, curled up between her feet.
Both of her husbands, two grandchildren, her parents and 10 of her siblings predecease her.
A private family service will be held at a later date, when she will be laid in her final resting place in Makroff Cemetery, in Manitoba.
