Niwa: Winry Ianthe, April 28, 2020
Nelson and Leigh (Laura) Niwa announce the stillbirth of their daughter Winry at 4:00 a.m., April 28, 2020, in Edmonton. She was 6 pounds 5 ounces, 211/2 inches tall, had big hands and huge feet, and was the most perfect thing either of her parents had ever witnessed.
She loved orange juice, mayonnaise, and strawberries. She loved holding dance parties, often right at bedtime. She liked to go running and swimming with her mum, and being outdoors. And she was so, so loved by so many wonderful people who never got to meet her. These include her grandparents, Bev Niwa and Calvin & Janet Wilcox; her great-grandparents, Ted & Sue Bates; and her aunts and uncles, Travis & Sarah Wilcox, Patti Wilcox, Louise Niwa, and Elizabeth Wilcox & Tom Kehler.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital bereavement program was instrumental in helping Winry’s parents through her sudden loss. As such, Nelson and Leigh would appreciate donations be made in Winry’s name to help other parents endure the tragedy of losing an infant. Cheques payable to the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation may be sent to 10240 Kingsway, Edmonton AB, T5H 3V9 with “Winry Niwa bereavement fund” in the memo line. Alternately, donations in her memory may be designated to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women bereavement fund at www.royalalex.ca/donate online or by calling (780) 735-4723. Winry’s parents are also grateful to Park Memorial Services for their partnership with the bereavement program, and the compassionate treatment provided.
