THE DELIA GAZETTE: Dedication: Sacrificing a curling game to set up community fireworks display!

By Lonni Pedneault

We would like to wish Capricorns and Aquarians born in January a very Happy Birthday, including Don Hall (3), Shandele Van Straten-Battle (5), Dianna Black (11), Bev Hall (19), Pat Hansen (20), Jim Adams (21), Ryan Duckworth (24) and Amber Kenny (30).

The Delia Curling Club had an exciting Cheer Spiel on December 30 and 31. The Jason Reed team won 1st in the A event, Barry Mason’s team was 1st in the B event, and Jared Mason's rink took 1st in the C event. A couple of curlers had rushed off the ice to set up the fireworks, so a game may have been sacrificed to ensure the Village could enjoy the fantastic fireworks display donated by many local families and businesses. School curling resumes on January 10 and 12. On January 11, the Curling Club’s popular Wing Night returns beginning at 7 pm and everyone is welcome! The Club’s AGM is on January 9 at the Curling Rink at 7:00 pm, and the Delia School and the Curling Club host the first-ever PLRD Jr Curling Bonspiel on January 17, and everyone is invited!

On January 11, the Delia & District Senior Citizens have their monthly meeting at 10 am. Coffee is ready by 9 am for a $1 donation, and we invite the newcomers to come introduce themselves.

The Elks have their meeting and volunteer appreciation dinner on January 22 at the Community Centre.

January 16 – PAINT NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY! If you haven’t tried a paint night you’re really missing out on some fun! The beautiful picture is of a Red Tree. Artistic skills are not required – but fun-time skills are. This is a free event but you must preregister by Friday January 12 as all the materials are provided and you must reserve your seat. Call the library to register today.

On January 17 at 6:30 pm, Prairie Land Public School Division is hosting a 2024 Community Engagement Meeting at the Delia School. Everyone is invited to come and ‘Join the Discussion!’ Snacks, refreshments and childcare will be provided. This is your opportunity to learn more about the school division and have input regarding your local school.

The Delia and District Historical Society has their AGM on February 8 at the Drop In Centre. Everyone is welcome to partake in the potluck supper at 6 pm followed by the Annual General Meeting which begins at 7:30 pm.

Also coming up in Feb, the Elks will have their annual Mother’s Day Breakfast on the 11th at the Community Hall. Mark your calendars!
