Take time to smell the flowers!

Submitted by the Crazy Plant Lady (a.k.a. Lou Melvill)

It's been Gordon's and my pleasure to plant and look after the flower boxes around town for the last nine years.

With many newcomers to town in the last few years, I thought I would explain a little bit about the flower boxes you see around town.

As usual, the Town of Oyen buys the plants from the Oyen Greenhouses. We are fortunate to have this great business in our town. Bill gives a generous discount to help the town look as good as it does.

The Greenhouse staff does such a great job from start to finish, making the end result look absolutely beautiful. The ladies at the front make sure the plants are in the best shape before I get them to plant, and I very much appreciate it.

Exciting news this year! Our local businesses have stepped up and adopted the flower boxes closest to them, taking on the responsibility of watering. This community effort is a huge help, considering we have a total of 44 planters that need regular watering.

With the help of the businesses, we are left with five stops: the welcome sign coming into town, the information sign (with the blue car), the big grey planter on the corner of 1st Ave and Main St., the big grey planter by the TGP store on 1st Ave., and the Clock Tower Park.

In total, we still have 25 planters to water, so you will see us around watering.

Hope everyone enjoys their summer and takes times to smell the flowers.
