Sibbald News, Jun 15

Reported by Lee Switzer

The sun has been shining and we’re all hoping for rain and a break in the heat.  Last Thursday, June 8, my brother, Wray, and his partner, Sharon, arrived at the farm from Teulon, Manitoba. They spent the night with us and later in the morning we headed into Calgary. My two sisters were in Calgary as we held a surprise 91st birthday party for my mom. Mom knew my sisters were there but was amazed when she saw us all. Her reaction was priceless. We had a wonderful weekend of visiting, laughter, and love shared between us all. We were blessed to have mom (who is more frail but has a good mind) and her kids together!

On Friday, June 9 there was a lovely wishing well bridal shower for Michelle McKay who is marrying Ian Norris later this month. Community ladies welcomed Michelle and she was presented with many cards.

Hanna and District 4-H Show and Sale for steers took place on Saturday, June 10. The Heifer Show and Sale took place on Sunday, June 11, in Hanna, as well. Sibbald was well represented through East Sounding Creek 4-H Beef Club Macy Lyster and Winston Smith had Cleaver calves.

Brianna Lyster took Hanna District Grand Champion Steer, Club Grand Champion Steer, and Club Junior Grand Champion Steer. Hanna Motor Products purchased her steer. Brandt Lyster was awarded Club first Intermediate Showmanship, Club second Intermediate Grooming, Club Intermediate Grand Champion Steer, Club Reserve Champion Steer, District Reserve Intermediate Showmanship, and District Carcass Reserve Champion Steer.  Brandt’s steer was sold to Brandt Equipment (John Deere - Hanna).

Olivia Mundt placed second in both Senior Grooming and Senior Showmanship. Prairie Wind Milling purchased her steer.

Danica Woods took Senior Grooming and Showmanship, at club level, with her steer. On Sunday, at club level, she had the Reserve two year old and Grand Champion three year old heifer. Dylan’s steer tipped the scales on Saturday with the biggest calf in the barn. On Sunday he showed and sold a two year old pair of heifers.

Cash Norris took first place in his class with his steer. He moved into the final six at club level. On Sunday he received Reserve Senior Grooming and Showmanship for the club. Coleman received second in his class with his steer. Camrie took second in her class with her steer, as well, and won Reserve Junior Grooming in her club on Saturday too. On Sunday, Camrie won Junior Showmanship at club level and attained Reserve Showmanship for the district. Cooper Norris won first in his class with his steer and the second in Juniors. He also moved onto the final six for the club. He won Reserve Champion heifer for the club on Sunday.

Damien, Brayden, and Tinika Brockmann had a successful day selling their calves.

What a great weekend for all 4-H members. We are so proud of all your handwork and efforts.  Sunday, June 11 a second bridal shower took place at the hall. Bailee Kress, who is marrying Seth Eaton this August, was honoured with many beautiful gifts as the ladies of the community also welcomed her.

Cemetery and outside hall cleanup took place on Tuesday, June 13. As usual, there was a great crew to mow, trim, and spruce up the community.

Heartfelt sympathy, love, and hugs are sent to Melanie, Mace and Payten Materi on the passing of Mike. A celebration of his life will take place this Friday, June 16 at the hall.
