Acadia Valley News, Jun 15
Reported by Yolanda Kuhn
As I sit down to write the news this week, I have my windows open for a change. It’s a much cooler and windy day today and it’s trying to rain … I sure hope we get some rain! Last night everyone’s phones were bombarded by constant weather alerts boasting tornado warnings! I’m not sure when what I consider to be a watch became a warning? There definitely was the possibility of tornadoes forming. The closest one was over an hour away. It seems to be shaping up to be a summer of storms and keeping our eyes on the sky.
Sorry I didn’t send the news in last week. I was away on a trip to Vancouver Island with my grandma to visit my niece. We had a lovely trip with great weather. If you happen to find yourself in the Campbell River area, I highly recommend Aboriginal Journey’s Whale watching tours. We were lucky enough to spot five humpback whales along with many varieties of birds, seals and sea lions.
The Big Sky Solar project has started to more crews in to get working on the local project. There are many crews staying in and around town for the project.
The W.P.S. Grade 9 class held their annual farewell and parade on June 8th. In the morning they cooked a meal for the junior highs with the help of Roger Didychuk and Sara Kropf. Congrats to this years graduating class. Aden Dean, Ben Knapik, Carter McNeil, Marissa Cowan, Eva Dyck, ad Charles Walsh. We wish you all the best in your future education at S.C.H.S. The Rec. Club will be meeting at Marshall Field on Monday June 26th at 6:00p.m. for the annual ball diamond clean up. Come on out if you can help.
Make sure to get your teams registered for the annual slow pitch tournament from June 30th-July 2nd. We only have 3 teams registered so far and will have to consider cancelling if we don’t get more. There will be a huge inflatable obstacle course for the kids, beer gardens, dance, fireworks and more. The Rec. Club just finished renovating the cook house. We now have water, sewer, and power! Watch Facebook and The Oyen Echo for more details. Contact Karilynn to register your team 403-664-1142.
Thanks for reading this week. I will leave you with this quote from an unknown author “Keep calm and finish strong”…there’s just 10 days left of school!
