SIBBALD NEWS: Eaton family travels to Australia for family wedding

By Wanda Molzan

Members of the Eaton family travelled to Australia the week of September 15 for daughter Amie’s wedding on September 21.

Amie has lived in Australia since 2016, and she and her partner Mat work for Downer Power Company.

Amie and Mat reside on an acreage at Granite Rock, Victoria, outside the small city of Bairnsdale, about four hours east of Melbourne. They met in Sri Lanka in 2015 when both were travelling and have made Mat’s country their home. They were engaged in October 2023.

After over 20 hours of flying, David and Cyndy, Hope, Meredith, Seth and wife Bailee, as well as Aunt Bev Eaton and cousin Karen Lewis of Lethbridge, arrived on September 18. They went to work helping with wedding preparations. Everyone helped with the garden, flower arrangements, baking and hall setup. September 19 saw an interruption in plans as Mat, Amie, and David discovered a female kangaroo had been hit on the road outside of their property with the orphaned Joey in shock. A rescue organization was contacted, and everyone cared for the little guy for several hours until he was picked up. The little fella was wrapped in a large fuzzy blanket and water bottle and kept warm until help arrived. It was quite the experience. Bev said that she didn’t realize cuddling a baby kangaroo was on her bucket list! - but it was!

Congratulations to Paige and Kai Lauridsen on the birth of a baby boy, Callum Alexander Lauridsen, who was born on September 15. Congratulations also to Shaune and Lee Switzer on a new grandson to cuddle.

Marvin and Wanda went to Fort Smith to visit Trevor, Katie, and Charge. The weather was great, and we did a lot of hiking. We enjoyed our time with them.

Kyle, Janelle, Emily, Ben, Jeremy, Ashley, Sawyer, and Billie were home for Thanksgiving weekend. They all helped Kerry and Brittany move their cows home.
