Acadia Valley News: Feb 23

By Yolanda Kuhn

We’ve been back in the deepfreeze all week. The good news is that the ice in the Arena is back in tip top shape.

The Acadia Valley Rec. Club hosted it’s annual Family Fishing Derby on Sunday. 48 adults and 26 kids braved the cool weather. Thank you to The Big Country Rod & Gun club who sponsored and cooked the free lunch that was offered all day. The largest fish in the kids category was caught by Cashton Brautigam and weighed .490kg. Cashton won a Family Swim Pass to the Shirley McClellan Aquatic Centre valued at $140. The Largest fish in the adults category was caught by Sadler Ermenko and weighed .556kg. Sadler won an ice fishing package that included a tent, fishing rods and more valued at $500. Robyn Vandeligt won the 50/50 of $500. Thank you to everyone who helped organize this event and to everyone who came out and participated.

The Rec. Club. Is selling 50/50 tickets again this month. The next draw will take place on March 14th. You can purchase your tickets at The Store, Skappak’s Farm Supply or a Rec. Club member.

The new hall should be hoping this week hosting the Ice to Dice from March 1st-6th. They had 28 teams register! Hopefully the remainder of the covid restrictions will be lifted by the end of the month and we won’t have to wear masks for the event.

The Rec. Club recently purchased a popcorn machine and I’m hoping to start up movie nights again soon. Stay tuned for more information and check out Facebook.

Thanks for reading this week. I will leave you with this appropriate quote for the week. “Life is a gamble, so roll the dice.”
