Scheuerman: Clayton William, July 12, 1948 – May 6, 2018

Clayton William Scheuerman was born July 12, 1948, the youngest of Peter and Anne’s four children.

In his youth, he developed a love of horses and shared many stories of his stallion, Lucky. Clayton’s most cherished childhood memories were of spending Sundays over west at Grandma McKee’s, sharing Fat Emma (a chocolate bar). After purchasing the Newel Ewing Farm in March 1969 Clay married Chris Johnson. Together they planted their roots, many trees, and raised their three children: Dwaine, Dean, and Krista. Clay had a passion for farming from a young age. He farmed for many years with his brother Peter and later his son Dwaine.

While raising his family he was very involved in the community. He held positions with the Chamber of Commerce and was a Cub Leader. Clay was active in the curling club and enjoyed playing hockey. He spent time watching his children playing baseball, football, skipping, karate, and figure skating.

A gentle giant Clay was a kind, caring, family-oriented man. His family remembers him as a loyal, hardworking, goofy father and grandfather, who was always tinkering in the shop with a project on the go.

Having a great sense of humour, he always enjoyed a good prank and a hearty laugh. Friends will recall Clay on the dance floor, dropping a peanut in his beer and the ever-present hairy hat.

Once his children were grown up, Clay and Chris enjoyed many trips together, making memories with family and friends. Spending time with his grandchildren gave him such joy. He enjoyed much time in hockey arenas and at dance festivals.

He was particularly delighted when the boys would join him working in the shop or around the yard.

Clay died suddenly on the farm he was so passionate for May 6, 2018.

He is survived by his wife Chris; sons Dwaine (Tanis) and Dean; grandchildren CJ, Brock, Tamara and their mother Stacy, Megan and Jess; brother Peter (Terry); sisters Katherine (Ron) and Marj; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clay was predeceased by his parents and his in-laws; as well as his precious daughter Krista.

Funeral service was held May 12 at the Acadia Valley Community Hall in Acadia Valley with Brett Swanston officiating. The pianist was Gwen Gustafson and special music was Dusty Old Farmer, This Old House and I’ll Fly Away by Robbie Shields.

Following the funeral service, family and friends were invited to a luncheon hosted by the Acadia Valley Community Club in the Community Hall.
