Hawking: Keith, August 17, 1929 - May 6, 2018

May 6, 2018, Keith Hawking died quietly at the Kindersley Hospital, at the age of 88, with his daughters by his side. Keith will be forever remembered by his daughters, Lynn Russell, Kathy (Perry) Allen, Mary Anne (Grant) Pidwerbesky, and daughter-in-law Barb (son Grant) Hawking; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister Noreen Chiliak and sisters-in-law Margaret Steiert, Doreen Ross and many nieces and nephews. His family members were very important to him and will be greatly impacted by his absence.

Keith was born in Ninga, MB August 17, 1929. In his death, he joins his mother and father, Ethel and Harry, his step-father Sam Grayson, his brother Bill, and his wife Norma and his son Grant.

Keith and Norma were married in Alsask August 20, 1955. Keith was generous, devoted, fun-loving, a hard worker, dependable, proud and very private.

He led by example, go to bed early, get up early and get to work early because you just never knew what was going to happen during the day. He taught us all that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing with pride and that it didn’t matter what time it was, you didn’t stop until the job was complete.

Keith and Norma built up a successful Esso Bulk dealership in Alsask which eventually expanded into Kindersley in 1977. He loved sports. In his younger years, he played ball and hockey. He golfed and curled well into his late ’70s. All activities were as much about being social as they were about the sport.

Keith had a great sense of humour and enjoyed playful teasing. His quick wit was always present and kept everyone on their toes.

In honour of Keith, his sons-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren each wore one of his ties at his funeral—18 in total.

Keith’s celebration of life was held at the St. Paul’s United Church in Kindersley May 10 with Rev. Piotr (Peter) Strzelecki officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Alsask cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the Kindersley Community Funeral Home and Crematorium.
