Norris: Marjorie Agnes, July 18, 1926 – August 13, 2018

Marge was born July 18, 1926, in Alsask, Saskatchewan to Christina and Gilbert Crisford, joining her older brother Art. The family lived north of Sibbald on the now Jim Woods farm. There she had an idyllic childhood with her best friend, Granddad Crisford.

Marge attended school at Highland Park, riding with the Woods neighbors or on her faithful horse. Many adventures were had on the three-mile trip to school. Marge finished her high school by correspondence. One of Marge’s favorite teachers was Jean Beynon, with whom she later became good friends.

Later, Marge attended the Edmonton Normal School where she obtained her teacher’s certificate and many good friends. Her first school was 1945-46 in Irvine, “Robinson;” second was 1946-47 in Bindloss, “Social Plains;” and her third was 1947-48 in Three Hills. The last school was in Leamington, Ontario in 1949. It was then that her sweetheart, Herb, decided it was time to bring her home, and they were wed in April 1949. Marge was soon home in Sibbald. Then the fun began – by 1958 she had six children, Jo Ann, Ian, Brian, Gayle, Kim, and Rod. Life was never boring. Like all farm wives she was a gardener, seamstress, chef, nurse, mother, and wife.

Marge and Herb spent what spare time they had square dancing and traveling around Eastern Canada, the North, and the United States.

Over the years, Marge was a member of countless boards, committees, and associations in both Sibbald and Oyen. One of her proudest contributions was spearheading the development of the long-term care facility as a Big Country Hospital board member. Marge also devoted much of her time to the United Church pastoral charge.

Anyone who knew Marge, knows she had a great sense of humor, quick wit, and loved people. The door was always open for a neighbor, a friend, or family to come and chat.

Mom passed her wisdom and caring ways to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One seldom spent time at her house without one of them stopping in to say “Hello.”

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Jo Ann and Dwayne, Ian, Brian and Heather, Gayle and Allen, Kim and Bill, and Rod and Karen; grandchildren Stacey and Wade, Brad and Julie, Kent and Deanne, Cody, Justin, Karla and Alex, Matt, Greg and Jerilyn, Marie, Jordon, Kurt and Becky, Adam and Brandi, Jeri, Megan and Chad, and Justin; great-grandchildren Dallen, Brody, Aidan, Kayla, Ethan, Addisyn, Paxton, Sawyer, Everlie, Isla, Deven, Derrick, Sydnee, McKenzie, Wryan, Casius, Coleman, Camrie, Cooper, Winston, Jade, Emmie, Hadley, and Nolan.

Funeral Service was held August 20 at the Sibbald Community Hall in Sibbald. Officiating Clergy was Rev. Helen Reed. Organist was Helen Thomson. A tribute was given by Jordon Christianson and special music was provided by Jerilyn Norris. Hymns were In the Garden and Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Pallbearers were Stacey Anderson, Brad Smigelski, Kent Smigelski, Cody Norris, Justin Marsh, Karla Marsh, Matthew Norris, Marie Pedersen, Greg Norris, Jordon Christianson, Kurt Christianson, Adam Smith, Jeri Smith, Megan Pipke, and Justin Norris. Honorary Pallbearers were all Marge’s special friends and the book club. Following the funeral service, family and friends were invited to a luncheon hosted by the Sibbald Community Club in the Community Hall.
