Charlton: John Henry “Johnny”, Oct. 16, 1941 – Nov. 13, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Johnny, JC, Dad, Grandpa passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 in the Brooks Health Centre at the age of 77 years.

Johnny was born October, 16th, 1941, in Medicine Hat, Alberta to the late Henry (Hank) and Gertrude (Ketchmark) Charlton. Johnny was raised in Brooks and spent most of his life serving farming, cattle and community endeavors. He had a passion for living his life to the fullest and became known across western Canada as “the most honest auctioneer in the business.” Always quick to offer a helping hand to those in need or share his talents to fundraise for many charities and events, he kept himself busy in addition to his regular cattle and farm sales. His involvement in the auction business for 60 years speaks volumes to his dedication and passion for supporting and building a wide network of folks he considered friends. In his spare time, he loved to trap-shoot, hunt, golf and play, coach and watch baseball and hockey.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Denise Mackness; his daughters, Deb Hodges (Greg Tamura), Carrie Lassiter (Darrel), and Shelley Charlton, as well as his son, Jeff (Marcia) Charlton; brother, Chuck Charlton; mother of his children, Bea Charlton, and many close relatives and family friends. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Keiran Hodges (Taryn); Cody and Taylor Lassiter; and his two special treasures – Mia and Bria Charlton. He was thrilled to meet his first great-grandson, Karter Hodges, earlier this year.

Family and friends whose lives Dad touched are invited to attend his “Celebration of Life” at the Silver Sage Community Corral, 144059 Silver Sage Road, Brooks, Alberta, on Saturday, November 24th at 2:00 PM, to reminisce, support each other, and of course, share fond memories. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. C.

Harris and the staff at the Brooks Health Center and sends deep gratitude to the staff at the Long Term Care unit for their dedication and efforts in caring for him. In memory of Johnny, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Brooks and District Health Foundation, Long Term Care Unit, Bag 300, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1B3.
