Youngstown News Report April 8

By Lydia Goodbrand

Other parts of the Special Areas have had some snow recently, but it remains fairly dry around Youngstown. While I know everyone would like to see more moisture, I’m sure those who have started calving are grateful we aren’t battling blizzard conditions.

This week started off with some excitement as the Big Stone Ladies Club hosted a ham supper on April 3. There were 125 people from the surrounding area, making it a very well-attended evening. The food was excellent and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Hopefully we are able to enjoy some more events like this in the future.

There have also been some things happening at Youngstown School lately. On March 25, there was a large archery tournament in conjunction with Delia, Consort, Berry Creek, Hanna, Altario, Assumption, and Warren Peers. 107 students competed in total. Congratulations to Vance Laughlin (gold - sr. high boys), Courtney Campbell (bronze - sr. high girls), Brianna MacPherson (silver - jr. high girls), Hannah Beasley (bronze - jr. high girls), Logan Moggridge (gold - jr. high boys), Dalton Powell (silver - jr. high boys), and Jasper Beasley (gold - elem. boys).

On April 1, they also hosted a smaller tournament with Berry Creek and Altario schools. 47 students from all three schools participated in shooting 3D foam animal targets. Youngstown was very well represented, taking home the top scores for sr. high boys (Vance Laughlin), sr. high girls (Courtney Campbell), and elem. boys (Jasper Beasley). Several other students also placed, including Milena Das Neves (bronze - sr. high girls), Matheus Furtado (bronze - sr. high boys), Hannah Beasley (silver - jr. high girls), Brianna MacPherson (bronze - jr. high girls), Dalton Powell (silver - jr. high boys), Logan Moggridge (bronze - jr. high boys), and Lilianna Moggridge (silver - elem. girls).

Just a reminder that the Youngstown Kindergarten is selling an assortment of flowers and other plants. Orders are due April 26. Please contact one of the kindergarten moms or visit youngstownkindergarten.growingsmilesfundraising.com to order. It’s a great way to brighten up your house or yard while supporting the kindergarten.

Thanks for reading. Have a good week everybody.
