Kirsten McCurdy: Born (a LONG time ago) and raised in Calgary, I lived in a great neighbourhood halfway between the Stampede Grounds and the Zoo. I think this formed my character. After I graduated from Western Canada High School, I attended the University of Lethbridge and graduated with a Bachelor of Education with a major in Drama and a specialization in Early Childhood Education.
My first job was teaching Kindergarten in a tiny rural community called Bonanza, 2 hours northwest of Grande Prairie. Culture shock! Then I came to Empress to teach at Kitchener School. Although I didn’t think I would stay in this area for long, one day I met a handsome and friendly rancher named Syd. We married, had two boys, Chance (29) and Connor (27), and I have come to love and appreciate this wild and complex land we live on.
I have taught in Empress, Bindloss, New Brigden, Schuler, and Acadia Valley, where I continue to teach various subjects in Grades 1-9. I love the community, the kids, and the staff. I am truly blessed. I’m looking forward to the greatest school year yet!
