Trades Exploration Summer Program gives students hands-on career training
OKOTOKS - High school students interested in skilled trades can gain hands-on experience, earn high school credits, and complete industry-recognized certifications this summer through the 2025 Trades Exploration Summer Program.
Offered by Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools in partnership with The Educational Partnership Foundation (TEPF), the program provides real-world training under the guidance of experienced journeyperson instructors. Participants will explore in-demand trades, develop practical skills, and connect with industry professionals who can serve as mentors. Those who continue in a trade after high school may also be eligible for a bursary from The Educational Partnership Foundation.
"This program is an incredible opportunity for students to explore high-demand careers in the trades while receiving hands-on training in a real-world setting," said Marco Pacione, Director of Learning for CTR Catholic. "Through this partnership with The Educational Partnership Foundation, we are helping students gain valuable experience, earn high school credits, and take meaningful steps toward their future careers. By exposing students to these opportunities, we are preparing them for success beyond the classroom.”
The program runs Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm throughout July. Hosted at various training centers in Calgary, the program offers participants the opportunity to develop practical skills, earn high school credits, and gain industry-recognized certifications.
Students can choose from several trade pathways, including pipe trades, ironworking, hair and esthetics, finishing trades, and boilermaking. Applications for most programs are due by Friday, May 9, 2025, while those interested in the boilermaker program must apply by April 30, 2025, as it requires an additional screening process.
With limited spots available, students are encouraged to apply early to secure their place in this valuable career exploration opportunity. Applicants will be notified within seven days of the deadline regarding program admission. For additional details, students should contact their school’s guidance counsellor.
