THE DELIA GAZETTE: The best liver and onions are served at the Delia Café

Snow is in the forecast already! Groan! It's time to hunker down and accept the inevitable, but luckily, there are plenty of events to keep Delians happy and occupied.
On October 17, a bus filled with 13 seniors visited from Drumheller to join the Delia Seniors in a game of Sticks, a rummy-style card game and enjoy some treats and coffee. Afterwards, everyone ventured across the road to the Delia Café. The Drumheller folks had heard the best liver and onions were served at the Delia Café, but I'll just take their word for that! Thanks to Carr and Mae for their hospitality and for serving great food to over 20 people, and to Karen Schneck from Drumheller Family & Community Support Services (DFCSS) for organizing this day trip (and bringing treats!) and hopefully, we can do it again soon!
The Drop In Centre had a great turnout, with 14 people having a fun time playing cards last Wednesday night. Margaret Rogers had the highest score, Anna Yarbrough had the lowest, and Peggy Anderson won the 50/50! Everyone is welcome to come play – just Drop In! (See dates and times at the end of this column.)
The Delia United Church will have a service on October 29 at 10:30 a.m. I know it's early, but you can also plan for a Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 7 p.m., but I'll remind you again in December.
The Library is hosting a prize basket draw for new and returning users and a Design-a-Bookmark Contest for kids of all ages! Bookmarks must be submitted by October 31, and winners announced on November 2. Prizes will be awarded. Pick up your template for your bookmark creation at the Library!
In other Library news, author Robert Feagan will be at the Library to share his stories with students on November 2. On November 4, the Library is hosting a Raspberry Pi Workshop from 1–3 p.m. for students aged 12 & up. Preregistration is required by contacting the Library before November 1.
On November 8, Jill Clayholt will be holding a tips and tricks workshop on Phone Photography at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Please register for this workshop by November 3 by contacting the Library.
The Library will be closed from November 13 to 17 and will be open again Monday, November 20! For more information, please visit the Delia Municipal Library website or call (403) 364-3777.
Sadly, the Halloween Hootenanny had to be cancelled. If you had already bought your ticket, please take them back for a full refund.
The Creepy Crib Tournament is on October 31 at the Drop In Centre starting at 10 a.m. sharp! (Usually wraps up around 3 p.m.) There are still a couple of spots open, so if you want to join in the fun (or you think you can beat everyone!), contact Carol at 403-821-1048 ASAP to register. Lunch is provided.
If you have broken, outdated electronics cluttering up your space, the Delia High School Travel Club is fundraising for their upcoming trip to Europe, and you can help by bringing in your old electronics, printers, microwaves, radios, keyboards, broken phones, televisions etc for recycling. Please drop them off at the Delia Library as soon as possible. The kids truly appreciate your help.
The Delia School is looking for volunteers to read to the younger elementary students. Email tiffany.scarlett@plrd.ab.ca if you would like to volunteer. All volunteers must provide a criminal record check to the school.
The school is also looking for Award Sponsors – individual or business – to sponsor academic awards; or do you have an idea for an award that you would like to start? Please email tanya.duckworth@plrd.ab.ca for more info.
If you are a crafty-type person and would like to help decorate our Village for Christmas, Delia in Bloom is looking for homemade tire wreath donations that can withstand winter conditions. Bike tires or rims might work best, but it's your creation! Please submit your creations before November 13. Contact me for more information at alonni1199@gmail.com.
Public Skating begins November 3 and goes every Friday from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and every Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. Visit the Delia Arena to get active, get fed or both!
Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday, November 4!
There is Bingo at the Delia Community Centre on November 7, starting at 7:45 p.m. Come early! Sales begin at 7 p.m. Bingo is every other Tuesday in Delia, and new faces are always welcome!
There will be a Remembrance Day Service at the Delia Community Centre on November 11, arranged by the Delia Elks. Everyone is welcome to attend. Service begins at 10:15 a.m.
Delia's Christmas Market is November 12 at the Delia Community Centre from 10 – 3 p.m.! All the tables are spoken for, and it's time to get that Christmas Shopping started! See you there!

For those who plan ahead, there will be pictures with Santa by Jill Clayholt at the Jolly Penny on December 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but I'll remind you again in the weeks to come. Yes, we're talking 'weeks' from now until Christmas. Eight weeks goes by fast! The cost is $10 plus a food donation to help Delia charities.
Don't forget the regular Coffee & Cards every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. and the Cards & Pool night is every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Drop In Centre, and Pickleball every Thursday in the school gym starting at 6:30 p.m.
