THE DELIA GAZETTE: Delia Senior Citizens’ President position left vacant after move

By Lonni Pedneault

First things first! Set your reminders to turn your clocks back 1 hour before you go to bed Saturday, November 4 and enjoy that extra hour of sleep!

We all would like to wish Barb Page a fond farewell as she puts Delia in her rearview mirror, and we wish her an abundance of health and happiness in Edmonton! Unfortunately, she leaves the Delia Senior Citizens’ President position vacant, too – any volunteers? Everyone is welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee and attend the monthly Senior Citizens’ meeting on November 9 at 10 a.m.

On November 2, the Library is hosting Author Robert Feagan at 1 p.m. as he shares his stories, and on November 4, there is a Raspberry Pi Workshop from 1–3 p.m. for students aged 12 & up, and they don’t mean ‘pie.’ Preregistration is required.

On November 8, Jill Clayholt will be holding a tips and tricks workshop about Phone Photography at 6:30 p.m. Please register for this workshop by November 3 by contacting the Library at 403-364-3777.

The Library will be closed the week of November 13 to 17 and will re-open Mon November 20.

On November 9, the RCMP will be at the Delia Drop In Centre to discuss Frauds and Scams starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to Drop In for this free presentation. Coffee and cookies will be available.

There will be a Remembrance Day Service at the Delia Community Centre on November 11, organized by the Delia Historical Society. Everyone is welcome to attend, and chili will be served after. Service begins at 10:15 a.m.

Delia’s Christmas Market is November 12 at the Community Centre from 10 – 3 p.m.! All the tables are spoken for, and it’s time to get that Christmas shopping started with unique gifts! See you there!

On November 19, enjoy the music of the Travelling Mabels at the Delia Community Centre for a Christmas Matinee from 12 – 5 p.m. Email eva.levesque@hotmail.com for more information if needed.

If you are a crafty-type person and would like to help decorate our Village for Christmas, Delia in Bloom is looking for homemade tire wreath donations that can withstand winter conditions. I am also looking for volunteers to help put up the Christmas decorations around the Village. Contact me for more information at alonni1199@gmail.com.

It’s unfortunate to see events planned only to be cancelled due to a lack of advanced ticket sales. Advanced sales are required to pay for entertainment, venue, refreshments, etc. The latest cancellations due to a lack of advance ticket sales are, sadly, the Halloween Dance and the New Year’s Eve party. If there is something specific that you think will excite the community, please email me your suggestions, and I will pass them along.

Regular weekly events in Delia:

  • Public Skating every Friday from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. and every Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Delia Arena and concession is open. Get active, get fed or both!

  • Curling starts November 23 for Members or Drop-Ins and goes every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Delia Curling Club.

  • Coffee & Cards every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. at the Drop In Centre.

  • Cards & Pool every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Drop In Centre.

  • Pickleball every Thursday in the school gym starting at 6:30 p.m. Please advise Leah in the Library if you plan to play so equipment will be ready for you. (Please Note: There is NO Pickleball on November 16)

  • Bingo at the Delia Community Centre on Nov 7 & 21 starting at 7:45 p.m. Come early! Sales begin at 7 p.m. Bingo is every other Tuesday in Delia and new faces are always welcome!

Reminder: please drop off your old electronics, printers, microwaves, radios, keyboards, broken phones, televisions, computers, etc at the Library for recycling. The Delia High School Travel Club is fundraising for their upcoming trip to Europe, and truly appreciate your help.

If you have any news or shareable tidbits about people, places or events in our community, please email me at alonni1199@gmail.com. Until next time, stay well and enjoy life!
