Sibbald News April 5

By Lee Switzer

I am sorry this news is a bit late! We were away last week, and I forgot to send this news earlier. However, better late than never.

The sights and sounds of spring are all around us! Geese have returned, and gophers are dashing about. I saw my first new calf earlier this week, and the longer hours and the warmth of sunshine feel delightful.

Congratulations are sent to Tyler and Megan Chiliak on the birth of their second child, a daughter, Celia Margaret Chiliak. Celia arrived on March 15 and weighed in at 8 lbs 4 oz. Proud grandparents are Alan & Ramona Chiliak and Lars and LeVan Jensen.

Oyen Minor Hockey Association wrapped up on March 23. The season ran from October to March 23. Although no teams won any banners, I am sure that all the kids had a great time and learned or refined new skills. Local Sibbald youth involved in hockey are Brayden Brockmann, Baxton Mundt, Dylan Woods, Brandt, Brianna and Macy Lyster, Winston Smith, and Dylan and Bentley Robertson. Shayelle Robertson played with the Consort Coronation Castor all-girls hockey team.

Dance competition season is underway too. Dancing with Miss Sherri and the Wilson School of Dance are Olivia and Joelle Mundt. At the Leader Festival on March 12, Olivia took Platinum (mark of 90% or higher) for a hip hop duet. The girls’ tap and jazz groups won Gold. At a later competition in Drumheller, the girls took the same awards, a Platinum and two Golds. The final Dance Recital will be on the evening of April 9, and an afternoon performance on Sunday, April 10.

Under the direction of Miss Tonya, Breaking Ground Dance studio attended the “Catch a Rising Star” dance festival in Camrose from March 17-19. Macy Lyster’s Junior group in jazz won Gold and Most Outstanding group . In tap Macy’s group won Gold and Most Promising group as well. Brianna Lyster’s pre-intermediate group in jazz took Gold and a Choreography award. In contemporary dance her group won a High Gold and Excellence in Novice Award. They also received a $100.00 scholarship for Rising Star Group at the competition and a high score trophy for the dance studio. They were dancing at the Diamond Dance Xtreme Festival in Medicine Hat the last weekend in March. Great job to all the girls and their instructors!

Wonderful to see activity at the Hall once again. The local quilting/crafting ladies were in for a weekend, and a cards night was held recently.

East Central Regional 4-H Speak offs took place at Consort on March 27. Olivia Mundt, Dylan Woods and Beckham Girletz all took part in this day. Although none of these youth moved onto the provincial levels, we are proud of these 4-H members.

Congratulations to Chandra and Joelle Mundt who were the lucky winners of the Yeti package Sibbald Community Club raffle drawn on March 31.

Sincere sympathy and love is extended to Leona Styles and family in the passing of Darla. Sending prayers of comfort and hugs to you all.

Happy Easter! May your hearts be full as we travel the Holy Week, with all pain and joy that Easter holds. Blessings to your families as we gather and share laughter together.

Take care everyone.
