OYEN LODGE: Residents enjoy road trip to Empress for lunch
By Dianne Spath
Hello, everyone. It’s that time of year where the nights are getting a lot colder, and the furnaces are starting up. There still have been some nice days for people to catch up on their fall work. I do know that I’m not the only one not looking forward to some cold weather.
The Oyen Lodge would like to welcome a new resident, Pam Turnbull.
Monday morning was exercises followed by dominos. The afternoon was bingo. Monday was National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day, also known as orange shirt day. Some residents and staff participated in wearing orange, to honour the healing journey of residential-school survivors and their families. The day celebrates the resilience of Indigenous Peoples and Communities.
Tuesday morning was the regular bus runs downtown followed by a one on one with a resident which was scrabble games. Of course, I never do win. Tuesday afternoon was ice cream parlour, which residents have the choice of sundaes, floats or banana splits.
Wednesday morning was exercises in the morning followed by Phase Ten card games. Wednesday afternoon was shuffleboard games.
Thursday morning was a one on one, getting to know our new resident. Thursday the residents enjoyed a trip to Empress to Tanya’s Place for lunch. Thursday evening there was music by Rob Shields.
Friday morning was exercises, followed by horse races. Friday afternoon was bingo and in the evening music by the Jorgenson’s. Ed Hillar’s son, Darren from Vancouver Island was at the Lodge for a visit. They travelled to Kindersley, Acadia Valley and also to Empress to see Tanya, Ed’s daughter.
The Lodge first floor looks a bit different now. The carpet in the hallway has been replaced with luxury vinyl planking. Have a great week everyone.
