OYEN LODGE REPORT: Celebrating harvest and other blessings of the past year

By Dianne Spath

Hello, everyone. It was National Fire Prevention week. Thank you to all our local and surrounding Fire Departments and volunteers for keeping us all safe.

Everyone is still enjoying the beautiful fall weather. The trees are starting to look a little barer, but a lot of the flowers are still hanging on and looking good.

Monday morning was exercises, followed by crib games. Monday afternoon was bingo.

Tuesday morning was the regular bus runs downtown and walks with the residents outdoors. The residents are trying to get as much walking in as they can while the weather is still nice. Tuesday afternoon the residents enjoyed one last pub afternoon in the gazebo.

Ken Nichols was here for a visit, so he was presented with his 90th Birthday certificate.

Wednesday morning was Church with Bill, followed by exercises, then some shuffleboard games. In the afternoon was One on One’s with residents, and piano by Taylor Neilson. Happy Birthday to Kevin Navato on October 9.

Thursday morning was crossword games and ATB Financial Banking. In the afternoon was a fire drill, followed by shuffleboard games. Happy Birthday to Mel Schaefer on October 10th.

Friday morning was exercises, followed by horse races. In the afternoon was card bingo and in the evening was music by the Jorgenson’s.

As flu season approaches us, we encourage people to take extra precautions with washing their hands and sanitizing when around the seniors.

October 12th is Farmers Day to honour hardworking farmers. Thanks to all the farmers and ranchers for all their hard work and the hours they spent plowing, sowing, growing and harvesting to feed our nation.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. A period when we come together to support and honour those impacted by this disease. It is called “Pink October”, as people around the world adopt the pink colour and display a pink ribbon to raise awareness about breast health.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving long weekend, celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. Gather and be grateful, give thanks and enjoy the Thanksgiving feast with family and friends.

Have a great week everyone.
