By Dianne Spath

Hello, everyone. We live in the seasons this time of year. It goes from stormy weather to freezing rain to sunny days. There is always a surprising variety of weather. The Acadia Foundation - Oyen Lodge would like to thank the Acadia Valley Community Club for the incredibly generous monetary donation. The Oyen Lodge is truly grateful for their generosity, which will benefit the residents.

The Oyen Hockey Academy went door to door singing Christmas Carols!

The “Ugly Sweater Contest”.

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by whist card games. Monday afternoon was bingo. Jean Olds was the lucky winner of the blackout with the number I29. If you bingo on I29 on any kind of bingo, you win a door prize. Jean won a $20 gift certificate to Albera Clothing.

Tuesday morning was the regular bus run downtown shopping. Tuesday morning also included exercises followed by a scrabble game with my one-on-one resident. Tuesday afternoon was an ice cream parlour. Each table had to sing Christmas carols to make it fun before they got their ice cream. They did very well. On Tuesday later afternoon, Taylor Neilson played piano.

Wednesday morning, Church was cancelled due to stormy weather. Crossword games were played in the morning, and shuffleboard games in the afternoon.

Thursday morning were horse races. After lunch, the Oyen Hockey Academy boys, ages 9-12 years of age, came to the Lodge and went door to door singing Christmas Carols and handing out chocolate treats. It was wonderful to see so much Christmas spirit.

Thursday afternoon was the monthly birthday bash. Angel food cake with red and green topping was served along with coffee and tea. Bev Haag did the raffle draw for the lovely homemade Christmas Afghan. Bev has made an Afghan the last few years to raffle off for a donation to the Oyen Lodge. The Oyen Lodge residents would like to thank Bev Haag for all her time and dedication spent on the raffle. Bev belongs to the Oyen & District Senior Citizens Association, and they donated $1500 from this raffle for entertainment for the Oyen Lodge. A huge thank you goes to that Association; it's greatly appreciated. The lucky winner of the Afghan is Madeline Nichols's great-granddaughter, Emily Svenson. Congratulations Emily. On behalf of the Oyen Lodge and residents, I would like to thank everyone for purchasing tickets. Thursday evening the Handi bus took some residents and myself on a Christmas light tour of Oyen and presented Manfred with a Christmas basket to show our appreciation.

Friday morning was card games, and card bingo was played in the afternoon. Friday was National Ugly Christmas sweater day, and Shirley Vanstone won the best ugly sweater contest. Shirley won a $20 Gift Certificate to Alberta Clothing. Friday evening was music by the Jorgenson's—happy Birthday to Mel Loose and Bev Niwa on December 22nd.

Monday, Dec.23, exercises were followed by Phase Ten card games, and in the afternoon, bingo was played.

Tuesday morning was exercise, and the regular bus run downtown for last-minute Christmas shopping. Tuesday morning also featured scrabble games with a one-on-one resident. Tuesday afternoon is singing Christmas Carols by the Christmas Tree with a warm beverage. Tuesday December 24th is National Eggnog Day. There will not be any activities again until December 30th.

Happy Birthday to Sree Gangadharan on December 28th.

The Oyen Lodge Residents and Staff would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Happy Holidays to everyone through the festive season.
