Oyen Lions award scholarships

Another year has come and gone, and the Oyen Lions have been working hard behind the scenes to continue fundraising. They are proud to be able to award two $1000 scholarships to South Central High School graduates who are attending post-secondary education.

Jaida Bouvier, daughter of Joelle Bouvier and Kathy Bouvier, is pursuing a career as a hairstylist. She is attending One Beauty Academy in Medicine Hat, with hopes of continuing her training in Calgary. On her way to becoming a South Central High School graduate, she volunteered with the Oyen Food Bank, completed two rounds of work experience at Oyen Public School, and helped with planning school events, including graduation. Her wish is to open her own salon one day, in addition to continuing to be involved with her community.

Alyssa Logan was raised by her parents, Cal and Tracey, on their ranch south of Oyen. She has always helped with the many aspects of ranch life, in addition to being involved with athletics, especially volleyball and dancing. Alyssa completed two semesters of work experience at Big Country Hospital, and that helped her make her decision to pursue a career in the medical field. She is currently enrolled at the University of Calgary in the four-year Biomedical Sciences program.

Congratulations to both well-deserving candidates. All students in Oyen and area are eligible to apply if they are attending post-secondary education.
