OYEN BRIEFS: Oyen Museum summer student

By Diana Walker

Due to an appointment in Hanna on Wednesday, July 24, I will not be in the Oyen Echo Main Street office that day but will be there on Thursday, July 25. Email news items to oyenecho@telus.net or call 403-664-6600 or drop into the office.

Searching for contributions

Oyen Museum summer student Mya Walker is checking the museum’s collection of Oyen Echos. Each year two copies are set aside for staff and visitors to use for research. One copy is wrapped in paper to preserve it for many years. The collection over the past four years is missing a few editions so if any readers have collected some past issues and wish to share give me a call. Moving forward it would be great if three people would share their Oyen Echo when finished with it so we could put together a complete set for each week. Again, give me a call at 403-664-6600.

Palliser Economic Partnership

Dear Members and Stakeholders,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who attended the Annual General Meeting. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout and to hear your valuable input.

I am pleased to share that we had insightful presentations at the AGM. Claire Jackson, Chief Operating Officer at WaterSmart Solutions, presented the Water Smart Final Report, which contains crucial insights for our water management plans. Additionally, Tracy Stroud from APEX Southeast Alberta gave an excellent presentation on the services available to our region. We are excited about the upcoming information sessions that Tracy and Barb will be organizing.

I am also delighted to announce our continuing and newly elected board members:

  • Chair: Doug Jones

  • First Vice Chair: Holly Johnson

  • Second Vice Chair: Angie Warwick

  • Secretary-Treasurer: Cody Hillmer

  • Members at Large: Irv Morey and Cassi Hider

  • Past President: Jay Slemp

Congratulations to all! I look forward to working with you to drive our initiatives forward.

Additionally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Town of Coronation as our newest PEP member. We are excited to have you on board and look forward to your contributions.

Thank you all for your dedication and commitment. Together, we will continue to foster economic growth and development in our region.

Best regards,
Doug Jones
Chair, Palliser Economic Partnership

Thompson Family Reunion

I had the pleasure of attending the Thompson Family Reunion at the home of Tom and Sharon Thompson near Pollockville on July 6. Six of the nine Thompson siblings attended: Dorothy, Rick, Tom, Kathie, Judy and Marcie as well as many of their spouses, children and grandchildren. It was such a great time with beautiful weather.

Birthday Wishes

Attending Miles Logan’s 95th birthday celebration on July 20 at Oyen Extended Care were his wife Val, daughter Gloria and Stu Tilbert, son Frank as well as Ralph and Marvel Jorgenson, Darrow Tye and myself. Miles received well wishes in person, in cards and via Facetime. The ice cream cake sure hit the spot.

Robin Wood also celebrated his 85th birthday that day inviting customers in Oyen Home Hardware to have a piece of birthday cake. He came to work in Oyen in 1964 for Gerry Ferguson in a store on the same property. What a contribution Robin has made to the fabric of our community.
