Lanfine Wind funds distribute $24,000 in grants

The Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA) distributed $22,000 in grants from the Lanfine Wind Community Fund on August 27th at the inaugural Grant Presentation dinner. These grants are awarded based on potential impact, fund availability, and alignment with the priority areas, which include Local Communities, First Nation and Metis Initiatives, Environmental, Youth and Education, and Health and Wellness. This annual grant program is managed by the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, with applications reviewed by a committee of community members from the areas of Oyen, Acadia Valley, and Special Areas 3.

The Lanfine Wind Community Fund Grant is made possible through Pattern Energy’s initial donation of $75,000. Over the next 20 years, Lanfine Wind has pledged to contribute 1 million dollars to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta, which will support local initiatives and community-based organizations for the people of Special Area 3, the MD of Acadia, and the Town of Oyen.

"It is inspiring to witness the tangible impact our support is having on local causes and initiatives through the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta. Pattern is honoured to continue our longstanding commitment to making a meaningful difference in our community,”

Said Pat Murray, Community Relations Coordinator, Pattern Energy.

Pattern Energy established three separate funds – the Lanfine Wind Community Fund, the Lanfine Wind Scholarship Fund, and the Lanfine Wind Badlands Baseball Academy Scholarship Fund. The two scholarships were distributed before the end of the school year, with two deserving students, each receiving $1,000 to be used for post-secondary education.

Dawn Peers, Principal of South Central High School stated, “The establishment of the Lanfine Wind Scholarship Funds is an incredible benefit to support students graduating from SCHS.  The recipients and their families are extremely grateful to Lanfine Wind 1 LP for the scholarships that will support their post-secondary education.”

The Community Fund Grant recipients include New Brigden Community Association ($7,640) for new electrical services, Youngstown and District Community Centre ($7,500) for a new ice plant compressor at the recreation centre, Acadia Valley Sunset Club ($1,860) for the replacement of the main concrete sidewalk, Oyen Childcare Society ($5,000) for outdoor play equipment, landscaping, and new mattresses.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the generosity and foresight of Pattern Energy, which makes these grants possible. Congratulations to all the grant recipients! Your hard work and dedication to our community are truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of your projects,” said Helene Nicholson, Regional Development Coordinator of the CFSEA.
