Horner sworn in as Minister of Ag

Nate Horner was sworn in as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development on November 5th, 2021. In his new role he will support the growth, diversification and sustainability of Alberta’s agriculture and forest industries and rural communities.
His responsibilities will include policies, legislation, regulations and services necessary for Alberta’s agriculture, food and forest sectors. He will inspire public confidence in wildfire and forest management, and the quality and safety of food. Supporting environmentally sustainable resource management practices and leading collaboration, enabling safe and resilient rural communities, are also responsibilities included in his new designation.
Nate is a fifth generation Albertan, as his great, great grandfather homesteaded near Oyen. After graduating from the local high school, he earned an AgBusiness Diploma from Olds College, followed by a B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture from the University of Agriculture. Upon completing his education, he took advantage of the opportunity to buy the family ranch located south of Hanna, and has been running it ever since. Nate has also operated several businesses, and has volunteered in numerous community organizations.
In his new capacity, Nate intends to be a strong voice for Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Economic Development, as he represents the constituents of Drumheller-Stettler.
