HAND HILLS GRAPEVINE NEWS: Cowboy of the Year

Tanner Girletz named Cowboy of the Year at the CFR

By Marilyn Vredegoor

Hello, Hand Hills – this November weather has been really nice. We did get a little rain this past week, and today, our world was covered with frost. When the sun came out, it melted all away. I guess that is moisture, too.

This is going back a few months, but if you know me, this is how my mind works.

Larry and Laura McDonald had two new grandbabies born just weeks apart this past April. Cody and Shea welcomed Ripley to their world. This little girl will be spoiled by her two sisters and one brother. Congratulations. Clayton and Sam welcomed a little baby boy named Levi to their already busy household. Aurora and Cole have a little cowboy to cuddle. Congratulations!

And more from the past – welcome to parenthood, Lee and Dana Quaschnick. The Easter Bunny delivered a very special gift! Baby girl Briar is now the official Farm Boss. First-time Grandparents are Don and Dallas. Welcome to the best club around! Enjoy this cute little Button!

I am sure that more from the past will come up in my mind, so stay tuned.

My column is doing just what I want it to do – bring people together. I had a lovely conversation with Ella Hayes. (I hope I got close to spelling it right.)  She had read my blurb about Larry Poland, and she said that his Dad would have been the cousin that she grew up with. She was so pleased to hear that he was living in the home place. She was a Eskaland, (again hope the spelling is right. Please correct me if not!) Ella's Mother was a sister to Harold Poland. She said that she had lost touch, but it was nice to get reconnected. Ella and her husband live in Westlock. She remembers fondly times way back when at Verdant Valley. The dormitory in Drumheller held a special place for her, where she met many a lifelong friend. Thanks for the phone call, Ella.

There is still time to get your tickets for the Ranchers Ball. Phone Jacquie for your tickets. 403-820-2604 The band is sure to get your toes tapping, the food will amaze you and visiting with neighbours and friends never gets old. Mark November 25th on your bucket list!

I would like to commend The Sentinel Paper on their display in this past week's paper in regard to Remembrance Day. I do not think that I have ever seen a better tribute to our brave soldiers! Thank you for that!

Congratulations to Tanner Girletz on being named Cowboy of the Year at the CFR in Red Deer last week. I know that his Dad, Kevin, must be so proud. The Girletz Family has been part of the Rodeo Family for many years, and their contributions have been acknowledged. Congratulations!

Till next week ... be ready for anything that might come your way! Remember, there is always plan B!
