Deepening Indigenous Education and Reconciliation

Christ the Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools is thrilled to announce a new educational services agreement with Rupertsland Institute as part of our 2024-2025 learning plan. This groundbreaking partnership aims to deepen our understanding of Métis history and culture while strengthening Indigenous education throughout our schools.

Recognizing the importance of reconciliation and cultural awareness, this collaboration will focus on creating comprehensive resources and professional learning opportunities for our educators and students. With over half of our Indigenous student population identifying as Métis, this initiative aims to ensure that every student feels seen, supported, and connected to their heritage.

“Our goal is not just to build resources but to empower every child to stand taller in who they are,” said Jacealyn Hempel, Director of Learning at CTR Catholic. “Through this partnership, we are committed to fostering an environment where all students can embrace their identities with pride and confidence, ultimately enabling them to make a meaningful difference in the world.”

This initiative will also promote the significance of Métis land and cultural knowledge, encouraging collaboration among educators, students, families, and the broader community.

“Every member of our community plays a vital role in building these important relationships and nurturing a greater sense of belonging,” said Hempel. “Together with Rupertsland Centre, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant educational environment that celebrates Indigenous cultures and strengthens connections among students, families, and communities.”
