BYEMOOR ENDIANG NEWS, Sep 30

By Les and Rosemary Stulberg

Gary Groat, who has been operating the road grader in the Byemoor – Endiang area for the last number of years has retired from the County of Stettler after about 40 of service with the County.

Gary started with the County in 1978 on the summer road construction crew. He spent several years in that capacity, took a few years off from the County for other employment, then returned, finishing a long career with the County.

On Sept. 28 the County of Stettler recognized Gary’s many years of service with a retirement party at the public works facility at Stettler.

Gary’s retirement was acknowledged again locally on Sept. 29 with a party in his honour in Byemoor, hosted by Lloyd and Jaryl Walker.

Congratulations on your retirement Gary and thank you for your many years of service. We hope you enjoy your retirement to the fullest and can check many things off your bucket list.

Remember October 4 is the last Wednesday the Byemoor Landfill Transfer Station will be open this season. After Thanksgiving the transfer station moves to winter hours and will be open only on Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Word was received of the passing of Geraldine (Gerri) Radke in Drumheller on Sept. 20 at the age of 69 years. Gerri was raised in Scapa, the youngest of three children born to Fred and Elsie Harvey. Her siblings are Shirley (Garry Keibel) and Allan (Anne Marie). Gerri’s dad was the grain elevator agent and her mom operated the post office in Scapa.

Gerri and her late husband Ryan Radke farmed in the Hand Hills where they raised their three children. Gerri later retired to Drumheller. Our thoughts are with Gerri’s family in their sad loss.

Two teams from the Endmoor curling club participated in the bonspiel in Stettler at The Hub on Sept. 27. Participating were the teams of Doug Harrold, Luann Buchwitz, Rosemary Stulberg and Joan Morrison as well as the team of Doreen Nixon, Carol Sisley, Terry Gallant and Peggy Anderson.
