BYEMOOR ENDIANG NEWS: Early taste of winter

By Les and Rosemary Stulberg

Mother Nature decided to give us an early taste of winter with snow and unseasonably cold temperatures, which was a rude interruption to the beautiful fall weather we were enjoying this October. Mother Nature, I think you lost some brownie points there.

The annual Byemoor fall roast beef supper had an excellent turnout, with more than 260 folks enjoying the delicious meal. Door prize winners included Tim DeMaere of Red Deer, winning the $50 gift card donated by Sobeys, Stettler and the two $25 gift certificates donated by the Byemoor Hotel were won by Eleanor Schultz, Hanna and Hans Bauman, Erskine. Thanks go to all who patronized the supper, donated food and volunteered to make it another success. The supper is a major fundraiser for the Byemoor Community Hall.

Byemoor School was joined by special guests Constable Witmer and Constable Potter of the Stettler RCMP detachment on Friday, Oct. 27. The Grade 4 – 6 class learned about Halloween Safety from the Constables.

Mark your calendars for the Byemoor Christmas Market, Bake Sale and Santa Day on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. hosted by the Byemoor Community Hall. Santa arrives at 2 p.m., giving you an opportunity to take pictures. Sleigh rides will also be available.

The Christmas Market will have lots of gift ideas. To book your table at the market, contact Doreen at 403-579-2460.

In the past weeks and in the coming weeks, area farmers and ranchers have been or will be busy with rounding up their cattle and taking the calves to market. They are enjoying stronger prices this year compared to last year, a nice reward for their hard work.

Angela Keibel shares the information on this holiday event. Kaleidoscope Theatre in Drumheller presents the musical, Winder Wonderettes. The performances run Nov. 14 – 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Kaleidoscope Theatre. Remember, the Endmoor / Big Valley U11 hockey team is collecting bottles to pay for their tournament expenses. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Bottles may be dropped off at the Endmoor Arena in Byemoor on Nov. 7 from 5 – 7 p.m. or at the Big Valley Arena on Nov. 9 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Also, you may contact any member for pickup.

We hope all the youngsters had a fun Halloween.

Humour for the Day

  • “Why do ghosts like to hang out at bars? Because of all the Boos.”

  • “What do you call two witches sharing an apartment? Broommates.”

  • “What is a ghost’s favourite dessert? I scream.”
