Acadia Valley Community Club hosts Christmas Gala

By Yolanda Kuhn

Just over a week until Christmas is here! I think I can safely say that I’m almost ready. Just a few more gifts to wrap. The W.P.S. Students have their Christmas concert tonight. We’ve had a bit of fog this week. Again, I put a reminder in my calendar to check for moisture in 90 days. I had it on my calendar that we had fog 90 days ago. No sign of moisture yet today.

Sending well wishes to Freddie Skappak who broke her him and is in Medicine Hat hospital now.

Reed, Rachel, and Violet Didychuk have been out visiting this past week. Reed had some work in the area with Atco Electric. The Community Club held their first Christmas Gala in the new hall last weekend. The event was sold out with around 150 in attendance. Kelly Skappak served a delicious meal as always and Mark Flanagan kept us dancing all night long. Hats off to The Community Club on a great job putting on such a fun festive event!

The Arena has been quite busy since it opened the beginning of the week. We are now selling hot chocolate, coffee, chocolate bars and chips at the Arena for $2 each.

The A.V. Rec. Club will be having their annual Christmas light contest again this year. You can vote for your favorite in town and in the country. There will be ballot buckets at The Store. There may even been some official Rec. Club judging on Friday December 23rd.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will no longer be holding mass on Thursdays. There will be regular Mass every Sunday at 9:00 a.m. They will hold a Christmas Eve Mass at 5:00 p.m. and a New Years Eve Mass at 5:00 p.m.

Mark your calendars for February 2nd -4th, The A.V. Rec. Club will be hosting a ladies bonspiel once again. We will have Karaoke on Saturday night and this years theme is “Sing your way through the top 40”. Watch Facebook and the Oyen Echo for more information.

Thanks for reading this week, I will leave you with a quote from Maya Angelou, “You can tell a lot about a person by the way they handle three things: a rainy day, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights.”

Acadia Valley Community Club L-R: Heather Knapik, Shelby Skappak, Haley Turner, Mckayla Niwa, Jena Skappak, Maryann Wallsmith, Rachelle Skappak, Deena Dillabough.
