Thompson: Elizabeth Mae “Betty”, May 23, 1936 - January 15, 2019
Elizabeth Mae “Betty” Thompson (nee Hawkins) died suddenly January 15, 2019, at the age of 82 in Kindersley, Sask.
Betty is survived by her son Laurie (Tamilyn) Thompson; step-children Valerie Leicht (Allan), Tracy (Harley) Dease, and Craig Saunders; grandchildren: Jessie St. Nicholas and Cory Thompson, Kyle and Dakota Leicht, David, Dawson and Brooklyn Dease and Addison, Jackson and Georgia Saunders and great granddaughter Hailey St. Nicholas; sisters Lorna Rolston, Florence Fischer, Shirley (Robert) McLeod, Dorothy (Vern) Arthurs; brothers, Roger (Muriel) Hawkins and Hugh (Linda) Hawkins.
Betty was predeceased by her mother and father Jessie and Jasper Hawkins; her husband David Thompson in 1992; her son Lee Thompson in 2013; and partner Sandy Saunders in 2016.
Betty was born in Loverna, Sask., May 23, 1936, to Jessie and Jasper Hawkins. She was the sixth child of a family of 10. Betty grew up on a farm near Hoosier, Sask. She married David Thompson April 7, 1956, where they farmed southwest of Hoosier, Sask. In 1973, Betty and family moved into Hoosier, Sask., where she started working for the Hoosier Coop until 1995. Betty moved to Esther soon after retiring with Sandy Saunders. In September 2017, Betty moved to Kindersley, Sask.
Betty was a loving mother and grandmother. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She loved curling, bowling and going to the lake with her sisters and family. Later on, she took up golfing and enjoyed it as well. If you were ever to run into Betty, Dorothy was sure to be by her side.
Betty will be missed by her family and friends.
A Funeral service was held for Betty January 21 at 1:00 p.m. from St Paul’s United Church, Kindersley, Sask. with The Rev. Piotr Strzelecki officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in the Hoosier Cemetery beside her husband David Thompson.
