Schaefer: Walter Theodore, Dec.18, 1934 – Oct. 14, 2019

Walter Theodore Schaefer of Spruce Grove, AB will be missed greatly and remembered dearly.

He died Thanksgiving Monday, October 14, 2019, at the University Hospital, Edmonton, after a lengthy illness. We will always remember him and give thanks for him.

Walter was born December 18, 1934, at the Alsask Hospital, the firstborn son to Albert and Olga Schaefer. He grew up on the farm northeast of Sibbald with his siblings, Lorraine, Melvin, Elmer and Gladys, attending Vernon school a few miles away.

He married Carol Shultz August 6, 1960, and raised three children Mark, David, and Kari-Lynn. They moved to Spruce Grove in November 1976 to continue farming and new adventures.

Walter enjoyed piloting the Gruman American plane and they travelled across Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan. Flying expedited the farm operations for many years growing high protein wheat. He loved nature and continued this through his gardening, spending his days outside enjoying the fruits of his labour till his final gardening moments this year

Walter was predeceased by his son David, brother Elmer, sister Lorraine and his parents Albert and Olga.

Walter has six grandchildren: Gavin, Rylee, Nigel, Levi, Seth and Aleah-Lynn. He treasured his family and was happiest during family gatherings.

He was a wonderful father, husband and grandfather.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rosenthal. Viewing will be at 12:00 p.m. and Pastor Glen Carlson, the family’s pastor and friend for many years, is officiating. There will be a light lunch following.
