O’Donnell: Pearl Madeline, Oct. 29, 1922 - Sept. 1, 2018
Pearl Madeline (McHugh) O’Donnell of Camrose, formerly of Bawlf, died September 1, 2018, at the age of 95 years.
Pearl (McHugh) O’Donnell was born to Henry and Matilda Zettler October 29, 1922, in Loverna, Saskatchewan. Pearl was from a family of nine: three boys and six girls. She met and married John McHugh December 17, 1939. They welcomed 10 children into their family: six daughters and four sons.
They farmed in the Esther district until 1963, then moved to Sibbald in 1947 and to Camrose in 1958. In 1963 they sold the farm in Esther and bought a farm in Bawlf, where John died April 19, 1964. After John’s death, Pearl continued to farm at Bawlf with the help of her son-in-law, Richard.
Pearl remarried July 9, 1966, to John O’Donnell. Pearl and John farmed in the Bawlf area until 1979 when they sold the farm and moved into Bawlf. John died October 5, 1986. Pearl resided in Bawlf until 1994 then moved to Camrose. In October 2012 she moved to Rose Alta Lodge, where she resided until her death.
Pearl was a great cook and loved to bake. She loved to sew and crochet, never having to use a pattern or recipe book. One of her enjoyments in life was playing bingo.
Pearl took great comfort and pride in her family, worrying about them right up until the end.
Left to cherish her memory, with as just as much love are her children Shirley Brown, Lillian (Jim) Schatz, Donna (Willie) Blatz, Eileen McHugh, Linda Hetzner, Mary Lou (Gordon) Kiddine, Patrick (Anne) McHugh, Tommy (Darlene Heck) McHugh; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister Eileen Moncrieff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pearl was predeceased by her first husband John McHugh; second husband John O’Donnell; two sons Brian and Timmy; two grandsons Joseph and Jeremy; three sons-in-law Richard, Ray and Grant; three brothers; and four sisters.
We will always remember our Mom’s gentle ways and her favourite saying, “Good enough.”
We thank our dear Lord for many wonderful years spent with Mom. She will be forever missed and held dear in our hearts.
A Funeral Mass was held at 1:00 p.m., September 7 from the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Camrose with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
