Marshall: Barbara, November 14, 1921 - April 4, 2018

Barbara was born November 14, 1921 in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan to parents Rochus and Theresia Denis and lived her early years there, going to school and helping with the family chores.

December 29, 1942 she married Frank A. Marshall from Mendham, Saskatchewan and they began their lifelong career of farming and raising their five children together in Acadia Valley.

Barbara was a Brownie Leader for a few years, participated in and was a leader of the TOPS weight loss program. She was active throughout her life in the Acadia Valley Community Club, Catholic Women’s League, and Acadia Valley Sunset Club. She loved doing needlework and crafts, quilting and canning her delicious chokecherry jam which she handed out abundantly to her most appreciative children, not to
mention her scrumptious homemade buns.

In 2004 she became a resident of the Oyen Lodge and enjoyed nine years there, frequently playing card games, tile rummy and scrabble with her lifelong relatives and friends. She lived her last five years in Extended Care Unit of the Big Country Hospital in Oyen. The weekly musical entertainment was always something she looked forward to and she especially enjoyed singing along when they played all those old songs.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Frank (1982); son Blaine (2008); grandson Jamey Marshall (2006); brothers Tony, Lawrence, George and Mike; and sisters Frances and Mary.

She is lovingly and forever remembered by her children, daughter Vivian (Ron) Nord of Spruce View; sons James (Eva) of Calgary, Ray (Shirley) of Medicine Hat, and Eric of Lethbridge; grandchildren Ryan Marshall, Jenny Marshall, Michelle Dempster, Cary Nord, Karen Blewett, Tammy Still, Jackie Brett, David Marshall, Becky McGrath, Julianna Gottli and Jesse Marshall; 22 great-grandchildren and two step-greatgrandchildren; youngest brother Leo Denis; sisters-in-law Katherine (John) Marshall and Rose (Lawrence) Denis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer Vigil Service was held April 10, and Mass of Christian Burial was held April 11 at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Acadia Valley. Officiating clergy was Rev. Newton Rodrigues. Megan Rafa was the organist and Pat Didychuk was the song leader. Readers were Jenny Marshall, Tammy Still, Karen Blewett, Michelle Dempster, Ryan Marshall, and Becky McGrath. Pallbearers were Ryan Marshall, Cary Nord, A.J. Dempster, Mitchell Brett, Matthew Brett and Michael Brett.

Following the interment at St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, family and friends are invited to a luncheon hosted by the Acadia Valley Community in the Community Hall.
