MacDonald: Norma Dale, March 20, 1957 – July 1, 2020

Norma MacDonald of High River, Alberta died at the High River Hospital with her family by her side, on July 1, 2020, at the age of 63 years.

Norma is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Fraser, and daughter, Alexandra (Adam) Nagy.

Norma was born in Empress, Alberta in 1957 to Evelyn and Nicholas Bozak, and grew up in Acadia Valley with her siblings Anita, Neil, and Natalie. She attended the University of Lethbridge and the University of Alberta, earning a Bachelor’s Degree (1978) and a Master’s Degree in Arts and Sociology (1981). After graduating, she moved to Fort McMurray working briefly for Employment and Immigration Canada, before joining Keyano College, where she enjoyed a 27-year career providing academic, career, and personal counselling for students.

In 1981, she met Fraser and they married in 1982, and a year later they welcomed their daughter, Alexandra, who was the most important part of her life. Norma made many lifelong friends in Fort McMurray, and enjoyed spending her time gardening, reading books with her daughter (skipping the chapters where the dog dies), following her favorite hockey players (Orr & Lindros), and having coffee with her friends.

In 2009, Noma and Fraser retired to Southern Alberta to be closer to their daughter. They lived in Okotoks, then High River where they met even more great friends. They spent their retirement summers gardening and camping, and the winters travelling to warmer climates, where Norma loved watching the local wildlife; memorable trips included Hawaii, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Arizona, and numerous trips to Nova Scotia.

The family would like express gratitude for the amazing support and care received throughout the past year and a half, especially the staff from the High River Hospital and Cancer Clinic, and their many friends and neighbours.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in Norma’s honour can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada

Caring for the family is Lyle Reeves Funerals of High River.
