Keith Frederick Hamre

March 31, 1932 - May 15, 2024

It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of our husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, Keith Frederick Hamre. Born March 31, 1932, and passed May 15, 2024, at the Hanna Long-term Care facility in Hanna, AB, at the age of 92.

Predeceased by parents, Tandrup & Marie Hamre, brothers Vance, Glen, & Ronald Hamre, and sisters-in-law Muriel & Dorothy Hamre.

He is survived by loving wife of 65 years, Ethel Hamre (Archer), sister-in-law Nony Hamre, daughters Brenda Barr (Kevin) and Tammy Bryant (Darren), grandchildren Cody Bryant (Shajen MacKay) and Matthew Bryant, step-grandchild Nicole Duque (Cory), great step-grandchildren Keaton, Jensyn, and Fallyn Duque, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Keith grew up in Saskatchewan, where he developed his love of fishing, tying flies, hunting, curling, rodeo, and baseball. In fact, his love of baseball led him to Kindersley, where he met his one and only wife of many decades, Ethel.

He also competed on the provincial stage in curling and on the national stage in conformation (dog showing) in the 60s. Keith represented Hanna and area as skip in the Alberta Curling Provincials in 1960 and returned to Hanna with the 1964 “Best Canadian Bred in Show” with his beloved dog, Aster.

A few years later, Keith & Ethel became a family of four. And, for the next several years, Keith dedicated his time & energy to his girls’ many activities.

In addition to husband and father, Keith also wore many other hats, including business owner (Hanna’s Gulf Service Station as well as local Artic Cat Dealership), and ended his forty-year heavy duty mechanic career at Youngstown’s Special Area shop in 1992.

Once retired, Keith filled his hours with umpiring baseball, fishing, and tying thousands of fly-fishing flies, many sold locally at Blood Indian. He will be missed and forever remembered.

As per Keith’s wishes, there will be no funeral service; however, there will be a small, intimate gathering to spread his ashes at a later date.
