Hoffman: William Maxwell, Feb. 5, 1952 – Dec. 26, 2019

William Maxwell Hoffman (Max) was born February 5, 1952, in the Oyen hospital, second son to Joyce and Frank Hoffman.

Our “one of a kind” Max died after a brief battle with cancer in the Hanna hospital December 26, 2019. His quick wit and playful teasing with be sadly missed by all.

Max spent his childhood living on the family farm south of Oyen, enjoying his brothers Doug, Neil, Mel, Rob and sisters Bev, Marj and Kathy. He attended school at Greenmound, Oyen Junior High and South Central High. Max’s passion in life was sports, except for swimming. He excelled in hockey, baseball, curling and golf. He worked for several businesses in Oyen until he was hired at the UFA, and worked for over 35 years with them until his retirement in Hanna. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being a groundskeeper at the Hanna Golf Course in the summer and making ice at the Hanna Curling Club in the winter. He also enjoyed coaching and mentoring young athletes in various sports both in Oyen and Hanna.

Max was blessed with two families. He married Debra Tye in 1973 and they had a daughter Maxine. They were both tragically taken in a car accident in 1976. Several years later he met Sandy Bourgeois-Huber in Hanna and they were married in 1987. Max was delighted to also welcome Sandy’s children Colin and Tera into his life. He was ecstatic when his first granddaughter, Emery, was born in June of 2019.

Max is survived by his beloved wife Sandy, children Colin and Tera and granddaughter Emery. He will be missed by his numerous brothers, sisters, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many friends in both Hanna, Oyen and surrounding communities.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Hanna Golf Course Saturday, June 13, 2020. There will be golf at 2 p.m. followed by a celebration of Max’s life at 5 p.m. at the golf course.
