Kayne Wright

My name is Kayne Wright, or Kayner as my parents Carmen and Tracy call me. I started Kindergarten at Oyen Public School and completed all my elementary and Jr high schooling through to grade 9 there.

While at OPS I enjoyed spending time with my friends, playing school sports, and of course hockey. In grade 1 I started playing hockey with Oyen Minor Hockey.  During my time as an Oyen Bee, I began playing the position of goalie and knew that was the position I was meant to play. While in Jr high I was given the opportunity to play spring hockey in Medicine Hat, and that was the start of my interest in competitive hockey.  At the start of Grade 10 at SCHS, I was successful in landing a spot on the U15AA hockey team in Medicine Hat. In grade 11 and 12 I played on the SEAC Tigers U17AAA team, so throughout all of highschool I bounced back and forth from Oyen and Medicine Hat, attending school at Eagle Butte and South Central High School. I spent the summers mx racing, working, golfing and catching up with my buddies, and so many great memories have been made in my hometown with my friends. I am fortunate that with the support of my parents and SCHS/ Eagle Butte, I was able to have the opportunity to play hockey and still graduate in my hometown. After graduation, my hopes are to find a career in the trades, maybe in the field of autobody. It is also my plan to continue playing hockey next year, possibly with Lethbridge U18AAA. Wherever life may take me, Oyen will always be “home” and I am lucky to have been raised in such a great community.
