Olympic week has started at OPS last week. Six countries (Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland) participated in the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday, February 3.

The Assumption School Grades 1 & 2 class in Oyen built rubber band powered motor boats as a science experiment last week. A lot of hot air was used!
Cold drink
89-year-old Lawrence Hanson from the Cereal district bundled up on Saturday afternoon and carried an old paint pail of water from the cattle waterer to the barn to provide a drink for their goats and cats.
Oyen Fire Chief retires
The Oyen Fire Department has announced the recent retirement of Paul Lijdsman as Fire Chief for their fire brigade.
Youngstown Light Contest
Judging was done on December 18th, 2021. About 28 homes participated and we chose the top 6 houses that were awarded with prizes.
Happy 100th Rose!
On December 23, 2021 Rose Bakowy turned 100 years old! Some family shared a delicious birthday cake and cupcakes with some of the other residents in the Extended Care in Oyen.
Empress holds 50/50 Raffle
The Empress & District Fine Arts Society (community hall improvements) held a 50/50 raffle, 1000 tickets printed with up to $5,000 prize money.
Oyen Library “Breakfast With Santa”
The Town of Oyen Library fundraiser, “Breakfast With Santa” was held on Saturday morning from 9-11 am at the SCHS Gym.

Grand Re-Opening of 1st Avenue
About 150 people attended Oyen’s Grand Re-Opening, Ribbon Cutting and barbecue for 1st Avenue. Several digintaries were also in attendancefor the event. The project cost an estimated $4.8 million to complete.
LAKE KINDERSLEY?
A torrential downpour hit the Town of Kindersley on the morning of Saturday, July 3. Reports of up to 70mm fell in less than an hour, turning several streets and parking lots into lakes, including 11th Avenue East.
