Keith Mitchell Memorial Bonspiel

By Brett Peterson

They say good things come in threes, and the third instalment of the Keith Mitchell Memorial Bonspiel on February 9-11 was no exception. It was a great weekend filled with lots of laughs, great food, and of course, some great curling. Eight teams came out to take part in this year’s bonspiel with these results:

A Event Winner: Merlin Peterson Rink.

B Event Winner: Riley Carroll Rink.

C Event Winner: Jerry Logan Rink.

Traeger Tailgater Smoke donated by RME: winner - Lynda Grudecki.

10 Pack Golf donated to Oyen & District Golf Club: winner - Andrew Grudecki.

Clara Peterson made the lunch. Sharon Berg donated the table snacks.

Reporter’s note: Keith passed away October 5, 2021, at the age of 62 years, following a brief battle with cancer. Growing up in Francis, Sask., he was active in 4-H and curling. Keith’s passion for agriculture was evident in his forty-plus-year career in farm equipment. He spent the last nineteen years of his career with Rocky Mountain Equipment in Oyen as the parts manager. In keeping with his beliefs, he asked that in lieu of “thoughts and prayers,” everyone could honour his memory by spending QUALITY time with family and friends. To honour his request, the Oyen & District Curling Club began hosting a memorial bonspiel in his name in 2022. Keith’s daughters Beth and Allie return to Oyen each year to participate.
