The results are in! The Carcass members finished their projects on May 15 where we all met at the Crossroads Centre in Oyen. It was an exciting day seeing all 22 impressive beef step out of the trailers. The members gathered around as each animal went through the weigh scale. We were lucky enough to have Gentex Ultrasound Services from Maple Creek ultrasound every animal so we could do a comparison with the grader on how big the steaks were and the marbling of beef.

Brandt Lyster - Reserve Champion Carcuss

Live Evaluation and Judging

We then took 8 animals into the building so that we could all do a live evaluation and judge each animal which we were marked on and whoever was closest to our judges results won. After all our knowledgeable thoughts were written down, the animals were loaded and sent off to Boama Meats where the professional grader would score the carcass. This year it was unfortunate that we couldn’t enter the butcher shop and view our Carcass hanging.

We all gathered at the Youngstown Hall. Excitement was in the air as we went through our results. It was the closest race that we have ever had, coming down to a few points between everyone. The Grand Champion Carcass ended up coming from the Hanna Club, Grace Scheler and Reserve Carcass, our very own Brandt Lyster. Rate of Gain Winner also out of the Hanna Club, Taylor Mashon. Live Evaluation Winner Grace Scheler, Judging Card Winners- Senior: Taylor Mashon(Hanna club) Intermediate: Callie Mashon (Hanna club) and our very own skilled intelligent Junior Winner: Jensyn Duque.

It was a very impressive season for these members and not one of them should be disappointed with their results. Congratulations to all and stay tuned next week for our Show and Sale results. This is Coleman Norris saying, “do yourself a favour and put some beef on your plate.”
