Coronation RCMP charge male with weapon offences

Coronation, Alta. - On May 4, 2023, at 3:05 p.m., Coronation RCMP responded to a complaint of a male flashing what was believed to be a firearm. Reports stated that it was tucked into his waist band and he flashed it to several youth who were walking back to the Coronation School from the Community Centre. After the suspect showed the weapon to the youth, he followed them to the Coronation School. The Coronation School was placed in lockdown the ensure the safety of the students while the Coronation RCMP located and arrested the suspect. A large concealed kitchen knife with a chrome and black handle was seized from the suspect.

As a result of the investigation it was determined that no firearm was involved.

Shayden Rocque (18), a resident of Coronation, has been charged with:

  • Caring a concealed weapon;

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;

  • Breach of undertaking (2 Counts);

  • Breach of sentencing order (2 Counts)

Shayden Rocque is currently on three release orders, two of which are for weapon offences and acts of violence. Rocque was held for an Interim Release Hearing and was released with conditions. His next court appearance is May 12, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Coronation.

With the assistance of the community and the Coronation School, RCMP were able to locate the suspect involved and apprehend him without incident while ensuring the safety of students.
