Check It Out: Canadians - be vigilant!

This week’s joke: The manager called in his employee and handed him his pink slip, saying, “It’s my way or the highway. Here’s your fast pass to the freeway.”

Lately I’ve been listening to a doctor on social media, who is an advocate for honest, logical debate. Dr. Suneel Dhand, an American and British citizen, says “If doctors and scientists are being censored in North America, what hope is there for the rest of the world?”

Dr. Dhand is a professional, practicing physician who has travelled throughout the world. When he toured the holocaust museum, the tour guide said the lesson to be learned from this portion of history was to “be vigilent”. Dr. Dhand agreed, saying the best line of defence against a “my way or the highway” approach is to call out the over reach right away before it spirals out of control.

He’s quick to admit that, “Not necessarily everything I say is set in stone, because science is evolving all the time.” Nevertheless he recently had an anonymous source accuse him of voicing misinformation and threatened to report Dr. Dhand to the police. However it was discovered that the self-proclaimed fact checker was affiliated with a major US publication.

“Medicine and science have been some of the worst offenders of tyranny, of not wanting to ever debate or discuss any alternative ideas,” Dr. Dhand said. “Sad to hear when doctors or scientists are afraid to have any counter viewpoints for fear of the consequences.”

Unfortunately an example of a doctor facing consequences for his viewpoint took place very recently in Saskatoon. Dr. Francis Christian, a practicing surgeon for more than 20 years and clinical professor at the University of Saskatchewan, was fired from his positions. In late June he expressed his professional opinion, which he clarified was not affiliated with the health authority or the University of Saskatchewan.

“My offence was asking for informed consent from parents and children in the role of the vaccine. For this I was fired,” Dr. Christian explained.

Dr. Christian has had a long time interest in the history of the totalitarian control of the Soviet Union, and has studied it since he was a teen. “When the Soviet Union was a world power it put out the great Soviet encyclopedia which was aimed at protecting the interests of the working class. Now we’re hearing the same thing; censorship is supposedly for the purpose of protecting the people,” he explained. “Canadians need to wake up to see the darkness that’s closing around us. We need the people to have their voices heard.”

Buddha once said, “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.” Dr. Dhand repeated this quote and added, “The only way we get to the truth is by asking legitimate and honest questions and having open debate.”

We recently witnessed an example of people who were protesting their lack of freedom in Cuba. In the New York Times it was said, “Shouting freedom and other anti government slogans, thousands of Cubans took to the streets and cities around the country. The Cuban communist party newspaper said that the people who took to the streets included government supporters who may have been confused by disinformation on social media.”

We don’t live in Cuba; we live in Canada. Nevertheless many people, including doctors, are being punished for questioning the mainstream’s narrative.
