Brooks RCMP investigate shooting at local bar - Update

On Aug 24, 2023, at 1:09 am, Brooks RCMP responded to a disturbance at a local business. The investigation revealed that during the disturbance, an accidental discharge of a firearm occurred, where one male was hospitalized with serious injuries after shooting himself with the firearm.

On Nov 3, 2023, 45-year-old Yohannes Tekesti, a resident of Brooks, was charged with the following:

  1. Weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization

  2. Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized

  3. Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration

  4. Pointing a firearm

  5. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Schedule I: Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth)

  6. Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking - Schedule I: Cocaine

  7. Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

  8. Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle

Tekesti will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Brooks on Nov. 22, 2023
